Meet Our Esteemed Panelist: Dr. Qiana Whitted

Greetings, comic con enthusiasts! We are thrilled to announce one of our esteemed panelists for the upcoming Atlantic Comic Con: the illustrious Dr. Qiana Whitted. Join us in welcoming her to our inaugural event where she will grace our stage as a guest panelist, bringing her wealth of knowledge and expertise to our discussion on comics.


Dr. Qiana Whitted is not only a professor of English and African American Studies at the University of South Carolina but also a trailblazer within the realm of comic studies.


Her accolades include authoring the Eisner Award-winning book, "EC Comics: Race, Shock, and Social Protest," and serving as the editor of "Desegregating Comics: Debating Blackness in the Golden Age of American Comics." Her extensive research and writings on race, genre, and comics history have solidified her as one of the foremost authorities in the field.


As if her impressive body of work wasn't enough, Dr. Whitted has also contributed her insights to Marvel's Penguin Classics collection of Black Panther comics, further cementing her influence within the industry. Additionally, her leadership as chair of the International Comic Arts Forum underscores her dedication to fostering dialogue and scholarship within the comic community.


Hailing originally from Virginia and a proud graduate of Hampton University, Dr. Qiana Whitted brings a unique perspective and passion for comics to our event. We are honored to have her join us at the downtown Sheraton in Norfolk, VA, on August 17th and 18th for what promises to be an enlightening and engaging panel discussion.
